Beer Battered Fish with Tzatziki Slaw

Active Time: 40 Minutes

Servings: 8

Ingredients

Beer Battered Fish Ingredients:

  •  2lbs white fish (we used tilapia)
  • 1 ½ cup all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 2 tsp seasoned salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 1/3 cups lager style beer
  •  Canola oil for frying

Tzatziki Slaw Ingredients:

  • 8oz bag tri-color coleslaw (chopped up if desired)
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar or sweetener
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  •  1 cup Odyssey Tzatziki Dip (more if needed for creamier consistency)

Assembly Ingredients:

  • Buns or Hoagies
  • Odyssey Tzatziki Dip
  • French fries or chips

Directions

1.     Add oil to a large pot or deep fryer, filling it no more than 2/3 full – just need enough to completely submerge the fish. Heat oil to 375°.

2.     Cut fish into pieces the size of your bun or into sticks. Pat dry with paper towels until no moisture is left. Then dredge in ½ cup of the flour.

3.     Make the beer batter by whisking together 1 cup flour, garlic powder, paprika, seasoned salt and pepper. Stir in egg, then gradually whisk in beer until the batter is no longer lumpy.

4.     Dip fish one piece at a time into the batter then carefully add fish to hot oil. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Place on a wire cooling rack to keep it crispy. Repeat with remaining fish.

Serve hot fish in a bun topped with slaw and tzatziki dip. Serve with your favorite “chips”.
